We operate as an Independent Orthodox Synagogue operating under the auspices of the Chief Rabbi of the United
Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth.
We run regular Shabbat, Festival Services led by community members or occasional visiting Rabbis as appropriate.
After most services we have a sit-down Kiddush so that community members can socialise, have a chat and catch
with the news and each other.
Membership and Burial
To apply for membership, and burial if required, the applicant must be a halachically an orthodox Jew, i.e. one who’s mother is Jewish with documented orthodox antecedents. Note however, if spouses, partners and families, are not orthodox Jews, they are most welcome to attend services and social events. Our burial is now covered, for qualifying members, by the United Synagogue Funeral Expenses Scheme. So if you are a current United Synagogue member you can now transfer your membership to us without affecting yourb urial rights. Our beautiful Synagogue, which is Grade 2 listed. It was built to a traditional design, in the Moorish style and has a warm and homely feel. It stands today on its original site at the junction of Goldsmid Road and Clifton Street. Needless to say, the upkeep is a continuous task and a drain on our resources.
